It’s easy to guess Acid Baby Jesus’ shtick just going on their name but to those who aren’t already in the know: don’t be fooled into thinking these are just another quasi-religious, LSD-loving psych-rock band - there’s a reason these Greek garage-rockers having been championed so highly in the international psych/rock’n’roll scene. Acid Baby Jesus are less concerned with the spiritual and tripped-out realms that their name foreshadows than they are with pure, unadulterated garage-rock hedonism.

Formed in Athens in 2009 the four-piece have two LPs behind them – their debut ‘LP’ and demo collection ‘Selected Recordings’ - and after a long, three-year wait they’re back with the new album ‘Lilac Days’ – their first on Fuzz Club Records, officially released September 29th. The album sees ABJ at their best; their scrappy, frenetic garage-rock distilling a hazy, incense-scented mix of 60s Western psychedelic pop, traditional Eastern folk and the scuzzy rock’n’roll sounds of  Black Lips  or  Thee Oh Sees.

On 'Lilac Days', it's clear the three years  Acid Baby Jesus' spent working on the album paid off well, showing the band at their finest in terms of songwriting and execution. Whilst packing the same urgency and vitality of the scrappy garage forebearers found on those revered  Nuggets  collections it also takes cues from the traditional, worldly Mediterranean sounds of their native country Greece - bringing a refreshing and unique twist on a genre that hasn't stopped pumping out bands since it started all the way back in the Sixties.

Acid Baby Jesus  is comprised of Noda Pappas (vocals/guitar), Markos  Mazarakis (drums/vocals), Tili Stronis (bass/vocals) and Dox Grillo (guitar/vocals). Forming in 2009, they've gone on tour extensively - bringing their hi-octane live show to Europe, the US, Canada, Japan and Australia, appearing at numerous festivals along the way, including  Austin Psych Fest, CMJ, Eurosonic and  Raw Power  to name a few.

Coverage Report

“Expansive and varied without ever entering the dangerous waters of “far out, man!”, Lilac Days might well be the rock album of the year that none of us actually deserve.” The 405

“What sets these guys apart is a matter of place. Hailing from Athens, Greece, their sound is something that’s oh-so-familiar yet refreshing, with its twist of American R’n’B and Mediterranean traditions.” Spill Magazine

“In Lilac Days they have created an album which shows the band at their finest, with sophisticated song writing and perfect musical execution. A lot of bands are trying and failing to reproduce a 60s garage, surf sound fused with psychedelia, and failing. Acid Baby Jesus are not one them” Backseat Mafia

“Acid Baby Jesus proves their competence manoeuvring within different shards of popular culture to piece together an engaging record” Post Trash

“Greek’s best current export returns fresh faced and going for a more laconic vibe than they’ve embraced previously. ABJ has traditionally gone for the garage gusto and held on tight, but now they’re folding in plenty of ’70s folk/psych touches to the mix and pulling it off with a pretty solid hold on their history.” Raven Sings The Blues

“Lilac Days is a tripped out distillation of stoned immaculate, hazy, incense-scented 60s Nugget-y Psychedelic Pop, the worldly Mediterranean sounds of their native country and more scuzzy Rock’n’Roll sounds… the most accomplished Acid Baby Jesus record to date and well worth your time.” Thee Psychedelicatesen
